Big flashy lights

Big flashy lights

I was walking down town a couple a weeks ago and I couldn’t believe my eyes!

I had not seen any Christmas stock yet, either I wasn’t looking or I was walking in all of the wrong places but it was pleasant either way.

It’s October and that generally means the following for retailers:

– Sell Fireworks

– Sell all things relating to Christmas

– Have loads of Christmas special SALE days

As a consumer we blindly get caught by $$ and big flashy signs and lights.

That raises the following question:

Are we too easy?

We are SOLD before we even know it and that is the beauty of Advertising and Marketing.

Growing up I naturally had an expectation on my parents as I’d figured out the reason and true meaning of Christmas and Birthdays and the only  true meaning I had for these special occasions as a child was that I received gifts, beautiful food and scrumptious cake. I was just winning all round, why would I complain? What was there to complain about? Well as a child there was plenty to complain about. I wanted everything my siblings or peers had and that was the complete reason for my being. Watching advertisements was the next best thing to a Block Buster film. Without knowing I had actually turned into a walking advertisement because I relayed all of the information back to my parents and instructed them to buy things for me. I had learned that I had to have a good reason for wanting the item so I got quite good at debating my views across. I’m surprised I didn’t choose law as a career field to be honest I’m pretty sure I would have cracked it as a Lawyer. Well I was sold and educated in the process, WELL PLAYED Society.

Now as I have learned and grown over the years I see and perceive things differently, a lot like most people I speak to about their views on the Retail Industry. Often you may find yourself engrossed in a conversation with a friend or family member about a SALE that you are waiting for to get an Item you want for whatever reason, you don’t care the seed has been planted and you want what you want and need what you need and no one can tell you otherwise.
Are we brainwashed? Another question that comes to mind… Some might argue that we are not and others would say we are, either way guys and gals no matter where you are or what you do SALES are coming for you!

Do what you must.
