Man “Smashing” Diabetes bids to lose 60kgs
It’s Diabetes awareness week this week in New Zealand, with advertisements, TV Programs and News articles all organized to make people aware of the signs of Diabetes and to encourage them to get a check up. Also this is a time where the message to those struggling with Diabetes is that they are not alone and that there is help available. Those seeking further assistance with their diabetes can get good advice from many organizations on how they can self manage their diabetes and maintain a healthy lifestyle. It’s recommended that if you or your family have a history of diabetes that you get a regular check up every year and also maintaining a healthy diet and regular exercise is advised to keep diabetes at bay.
It’s an exciting time for a young man who at the age of 27 years old had up until 3 weeks ago weighed 148kg. Tennyson Times were very fortunate to have an exclusive video interview with him and we think he is a very Inspirational Man. His name is Tyrone Henry and he is sharing his Story and Journey with thousands of people across the world, many of whom proclaim to have just by chance come across his Facebook page which he launched on the 23rd of October.
Tyrone now has over 4000 followers on his Facebook page which he says he initially only launched for the purpose of “Accountability and Transparency”
The Facebook page is called ” Watch Me Smash Diabetes and Lose 60kg” and Tyrone has recognized that although he initially started his page for his own Accountability and Transparency that it has also become a huge responsibility with many people asking him about his Recipes and Walking schedules. He is very humbled that people would care what he thinks and can only share how changes he has made already have helped him.
Why did he start this Journey?
We asked Tyrone how this all began and he advised us that after a visit to his doctor who was very straightforward and blunt about the situation, Tyrone had been told that after being diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes a couple of months earlier that his condition had now worsened and this meant he required additional medication. He was advised that if he did not do something about his health immediately he would very soon be Insulin dependent. He didn’t really think that much of it at first and said he tried to justify his actions as he had already started to make small changes with his portion sizes and also not drinking fizzy drinks as much as possible. He realized that actually although he had made changes still eating 1 McDonalds Big Mac would still add up over time. It was a week after his doctors appointment where he calls it a “God Inspired moment” where he was Inspired by God to start his New Journey. Tyrone believes it is because of his Faith that he has made it to 3 weeks with solidly sticking to his healthy eating plan and daily exercise regime. His family, Friends, Church and Facebook followers have been a huge encouragement to him along the way.
Tyrone has since featured on the Hawkes Bay Today News Paper and also has been interviewed by the Popular New Zealand Hip hop Radio station Flava. Tyrone said he never ever expected such a great positive response and has been really encouraged by the amount of people who are reaching out to him whether it be to feature in one of his Daily walking videos, asking about recipes or just commenting to tell him to keep going.
We look forward to seeing him reach his goals and we’ll be documenting his progress as much as possible.
